LET'S PLAY A GAME: THE ECONOMIC REALITY GAME

What am I talking about? I am talking about a dark game related to government agenda and the economics of a business trying to exist within the economic environment that government creates and fosters.
Remember: Government incentivizes and government disincentivizes through the policies that are developed by those politicians and "experts" guiding their Federal, state and or city agendas. Democrat, Republican, Independent, Socialist and now Communist.
This game will consist of you choosing four business types in your local community and rate them as to whether you think they will be able to remain in operation over the next three years.
The four business models to consider: Grocery store, Restaurant, Diner and Coffee shop. These are all foundational low margin food related business models in any community.
And what exactly do these three business models have in common? They are all energy intensive; they are food related, they generally employ entry level and or tip dependent employees and they are generally walk in customer business models.
What is specifically going on related to business models that are energy intensive, food related, generally employ entry level and or tip dependent employees and walk in customers? The rising cost of electricity and natural gas, mandated minimum wage rates, increased cost of goods, increased costs of trucking, increased cost of insurance related to employment and the cost of rent, liability and property insurance.
Each one of these business models use much higher levels of electricity and gas in food preparation and refrigeration as well as heating and lighting. And all are generally labor intensive. How much can you charge for a cup of coffee?
What happens when government through their established policies artificially inflate the costs of doing business without any consideration for the real effects of real-world economics? Bankruptcies and fewer jobs for those entry level employees and government forced inflation.
"While bureaucrats are insisting that “law, not politics” is driving the cost increases, the truth is that over the past few years, New York’s Democratic politicians have made a series of disastrous energy decisions."
Where exactly does policy / law emanate from? Law and policy are a direct function of politics.
The proposed increase percentages for Con Edison in New York State are as follows:
Electricity:
3.5% in 2026
3.2% in 2027
3.1% in 2028
Natural Gas:
4.4% in 2026
5.7% in 2027
In the next three years the cost of electricity in New York State is scheduled to increase by 10% and 16% respectively for natural gas. All based NOT on market / economic forces but based on government political agenda. Note: Elections have consequences.
And so, make your list of the three businesses in the classifications I have identified in your local community over the next three years and who it is that you believe will have to shut their doors because the direct and, in many instances, irrational and unjustifiable interference in business due to political agenda which some would characterize as a political religion.
Government attempting to modify behavior and achieve economy and efficacies in energy need not include such extremism.
Massachusetts is what is coming for everyone: https://youtu.be/n8XFCi9d4hg?si=NnLxKARfEyNAPuPY 4 min 30 sec.
These are all thin margin business models as it is and government and its overzealous moralistic ideological meddling in the day-to-day economics of business has become an existential threat to them and many other homeowners because of it (This includes YOU!).
You and your local community businesses and the fabricated "necessary" pain applied by government that is about to soon befall everyone concerned is a choice based in agenda and that agenda is counter to the interests of the individual and seeks to make all comply with it.
This is more about a reset in the public accepting authoritarianism, the confiscation and redistribution of your personal wealth through fees and taxation and the lessening of your personal freedom to prosper than the "greater community good". But that's me.
If you tend to vote enthusiastically and virtuously for such things than enjoy the coming unnecessary agenda pain, you are intuitively correct about everything.
