WHEN "INFLUENCING" GOES TOO FAR?

Now up until now I have not one negative thing to say about Serena Williams, not one thing. Serena Williams was thee dominant apex female tennis player for many years, probably none better ever. A tennis assassin! If you were facing her on the tennis court, you feared her. I admire that, she is and was a champion!

But now Serena has morphed into a social media and fashion "Influencer" in her retired state. Good for her, make the best of it, you have earned that next level move. And influencers need to influence and have to have something to say about everything to their followers, and sometimes they go too far in their own perceived importance and relevance. IMO anyway.

Serena Williams Calls Out Hotel’s Cotton Plant Décor Saying ‘It Doesn’t Feel Great’

I saw this story and was so disappointed that she would go out of her way and make a thing about a hotels decoration choice by using a cotton plant. Now if I were to take her seriously, I would expect that she would now announce that she will refuse to wear all and anything made of cotton? Good by underwear! Good by jeans! Good by tee shirts!

If seeing cotton in its natural state in a hotel makes you feel "Not Great" than I have to assume that knowingly wearing it next to your skin would cause a nervous breakdown or worse.

By making comments like this on a whole plethora of subjects you are just feeding into perpetuating what it is that you believe you are fighting against. Remember, social media "Influencers" need to influence and at the same time they might feel the need to be controversial in order that their followers not become bored with them?

So, will Serena Williams be announcing that wearing cotton will now be discontinued by her due to her personal imaginations about what it might represent to some? Highly doubtful, but she may have unknowingly (?) created a meme that young impressionable people will latch on to, which will perpetuate something that will be used to further divide and justify hatred. IMO.

Unnecessary social media "INFUENCER" driven drama? You tell me.

The next logical cotton related "INFLUENCER" move? Use nothing with the word "COTTON" in it? Now we have got a real problem!
