BOUGHT NEW SPEAKERS

I had to buy a new set of speakers for my desk top computer. I had a set of Bose desk top speakers, you know, the ones with the little round touch pad and volume control. They are well made, are compact and they served me very well for many years. But one of the speakers over time became blown and it was driving me nuts.

I decided I wanted more power and base without having to purchase a system with two speakers and a sperate base unit. I wanted a simple well-made plug and play system.

Unfortunately, I was not able to find exactly what I wanted offered by Bose in the next level more powerful 2-speaker configuration. And so doing some internet searching, pricing and comparing I found this company, Audioengine: Home Music Systems — Wired and Wireless Speakers Multiroom too (audioengine.com)

And I chose this set of new speakers for my desk top computer, the A5+: A5+ Home Music System w/ Bluetooth aptX-HD — Audioengine A little more money than I wanted to pay but the button was pushed. Two days later they arrived.

They were a bit more than I wanted to spend, $434.00 (no blue tooth) plus tax on Amazon, but they were well worth it. These are very nicely made speakers, solid and weighty. Took all of 5 minutes to set up, plug and play. Two speakers, no additional base unit.

How did I test them? I first played this version of Sultans of Swing by Dire Straits: https://youtu.be/h0ffIJ7ZO4U?si=gvshuOHWHuJD2Blu Crystal clear and full range sound.

Then I played this version of Thunder Struck by AC/ DC : https://youtu.be/Mo79sqsmjbY?si=E-UvMUtv9qMCgy31 The A5+ speakers handled it all without any distortion. As a matter of fact I could not turn it all the way up they were too powerful sitting just 2 feet away from them on my desk. Plenty of power and clarity for a large room.

To be honest, this military version of Thunder Struck gets me emotional. A little dark and primal? Maybe, but this version gets to me.

My conclusion? Audioengine A5+ speakers for your desk top computer? Well worth the money. JGL SIGMA3Ioc.com 2/23/24
