Many people are in love with the concept of A.I. and all of the wonderful things it can or will deliver today and in the future. And of course, your TESLA auto's computer self-driving feature driving your car for you in the real world without you having to pay much attention.
That is a false interpretation and sense of security related to that technology that some Tesla owners must believe IMO.

On December 3rd my internet and phone system went out in the morning as a result of this crash and fire in Pelham Manor, NY below. Was out until the next morning the crash and resulting intense explosion destroyed all the communication cables in the area.

If you watch the gas station security camera video clip you will see the Tesla doing what looks like about 80 or so miles per hour just before it hits the rock out cropping. As I understand it it's all computer controlled. That is a small-town country road with lots of stop signs posted at 25 MPH. I drive on it often. I have no idea if this Tesla was in self-driving mode or not or what actually caused this unfortunate event.
I never really thought not having to fully pay attention while driving was a good idea, but that's me. I suppose that the "self-driving" concept would work well on a closed loop roadway where all of the autos were all controlled using the same system. And the road environment was totally managed, no or less real-world surprises.
It seems like this computer "self-driving" driving technology idea is being live tested and proven in real time in the real world in the field. Working out the kinks and bugs real time not a good idea in my opinion.
Now you have to admire Elon Musk on several levels, but I think that Elon may have to
reconsider and make some adjustments on his thinking on this "self-driving" Tesla vision.
First principles: "The most basic truths or facts about something."
(Real world: I ask everyone that I come in contact with who own and drive a Tesla how they like it, and have they ever had any issues with either the brakes or accelerator? They all say they have not, and they love the car.)
Are you paying attention yet America? JGL 12/13/24
